    The last day of July is to be a black Monday for cinephiles. After knowing the news of the death of Jeanne Moreau, we are sadden to hear about that also dead Sam Shepard. The well-known actor, screenwriter, playwright and director, he lost his life to the 73 in your home, in Kentucky; was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

    Among the achievements of Shepard noteworthy is the Pulitzer Prize for his work ‘Buried Child’ (1979), which reflected part of her own childhood and experiences with an alcoholic father. A few years later, he was nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor for ‘Chosen for the glory’ (‘The Right Stuff’, 1983); it was his only chance of winning the statuette, although, of course, needed no such thing to leave a mark on the public.

    As an actor, his first big role was at the orders of Terrence Malick ‘Days of heaven’ (‘Days of Heaven’, 1978). Other relevant titles of his filmogragía are ‘Resurrection’ (‘Resurrection’, 1980), ‘Country’ (1984), ‘steel Magnolias gone with’ (‘Steel Magnolias’, 1989), ‘The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford’ (‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’, 2007), and ‘Cold in July’ (‘Cold in July’, 2014). He directed two feature films, ‘far North’ (‘Far North’, 1988) and ‘Language silent’ (‘Silent Tongue’, 1993), although he devoted more time and passion of the theater; in the first he worked with Jessica Lange, his partner for more than two decades (1982 to 2009).
