45 years ago left this world Janis Lyn Joplin hardly have enjoyed it, although no one can deny that did not live 27 years (yes, enters the club age damn) intensely.

Now, Avalon brings this Friday in theaters Spanish documentary Janis , which tries to enter life of this groundbreaking artist, sexualized and brutal , who took refuge in blues and rock to escape the pain of a troubled past, which ended up chasing her until the end of his days.

the counterculture 60s he welcomed Tejano singer, whose memorable concerts like the Woodstock Festival marked the generation of the age of Aquarius, but musical immortality would posthumously.

the film, directed by Amy Berg, nominated for an Oscar for West of Memphis and Deliver Us from evil Joplin collects the letters exchanged with family and friends for years (some are made public for the first time in the documentary) and are read with the voiceover of the singer Chan Marshall, known for his time as Cat Power.

in this correspondence discovered that after the uninhibited and cheerful image that Janis projected on stage, introverted, depressed and with a tremendous need for people to be accepted as an artist in a predominantly male world, despite hides the modernity that was intended in the hippie decade.

a adolescence in which he suffered repetitive and cruel bullying, combined with the racist ideology of many of the people of his state, changed the way of thinking of Joplin, who he wanted to rebel and go to San Francisco, where he met his first band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. It was the springboard to express their suffering in front of hundreds of people, but also an entry from the excesses of drugs and alcohol , which added to their passionate love affairs drew the outline of a strong woman at the microphone but extremely weak personally.

“but we have the music”

Joplin showed that a woman had to be not only a sweet ‘pretty face’, and I could show strength. The singer Leonard Cohen wrote in his song Chelsea Hotel (which takes its name Hotel witness his affair with Janis ): “I fixed it a little and said, ‘Never mind, we are ugly, but we music ”.

It ended April 1 October when his companions were waiting in the studio to continue recording his raspy voice. In room 105 of the Landmark Motor Hotel Hollywood was found dead due to a heroin overdose , the exterminating angel up some of the best talent.

Janis offers an intimate and personal account of a dissonant and very ahead of its time person. She herself spoke well about his life: “ On stage I make love to 25,000 different people , then I go home alone”
