If something Android is good is the huge number of different terminals that we can offer, from the highest range, with prices sometimes prohibitive to the input range for tighter budgets. In the latter group is the new Alcatel Pop 4 Plus , which has recently arrived in Spain.
The family Alcatel Pop 4 consists of 3 terminals: The Pop 4 Pop 4S come later to our country, and our protagonist, the Pop 4 Plus . Of the two that are already on sale in Spain, which is analyzed phablet, similar in power, but for a loving public of the big screens
Alcatel is a manufacturer that has a very long history in Android , but since they have not focused on the highest range, are not as well known as HTC, Samsung or Sony. That does not mean that the French manufacturer is bad, it is perfectly capable of making phones like the Idol 4 or 4S, which will go on sale sometime.
Given that the specifications are the perfect card for many people , it is a must start this section. We should note that there is a range of input, do not expect an amazing hardware for a phone that does not reach the 150 € .

The processor that drives this terminal it is a humble Snapdragon 210 to 1.1 GHz, quad-core, despite not seem like much, it is able to move the system without many problems. Perhaps for the price you could have expected a slightly better processor, such as the Snapdragon 410, which is 64 bits at least, but, as we shall see, there is nothing wrong this either.
As phablet that is, this Pop 4 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen with HD (1,280 x 720) resolution, although it seems little, we must consider that this is a smartphone from 150 €. It has 1.5 GB of RAM, something just past, and storage 16 GB expandable with microSD cards , of which are about 10.5 GB for the user.
The device connectivity is what you expect from a phone of 150 €, has LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS, and even FM radio , an element that more than one asset. In the list we do not see or fingerprint sensor, or NFC or stuff like that. Perhaps the latter would have been nice to have, but we will not ask too much.
As for the cameras, we go back (again) to contextualize the price, so we find a camera 8 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front . Both cameras have their own LED flash. Cameras discuss below, because I want to comment on something that struck me.
As for autonomy, we find a battery 2500 mAh , which will also talk later. In principle, these may seem justitos 2500 mAh considering smartphone screen, but not all are numbers. Obviously, we can not expect quick charging technology at all.
The terminal hardware level, does not stand anywhere if we stick to the data on paper, but we must bear in mind at all times this analysis is a mobile of 150 €. it is a smartphone for those looking for something simple for day to day and want to enjoy media on your big screen.
Functional design, unpretentious
Alcatel is not a manufacturer that stands espeialmente for design in your phone, maybe we can put as an exception to the “reversible” phones like the Idol 4 to have a sleek design and the particularity of being able to use any of its two speakers for calls but ultimately there is none that can be distinguished from others.
Given that our protagonist is priced at 150 €, can not expect the more premium market . The material used to construct this terminal is plastics, the quality is good. When removing the cap, plastic is not too soft, but not too rigid, does not seem to be a plastic will deteriorate within a few months.
In the front we find, as the predominant element, 5.5-inch screen. Frames are not overly large, but there is no significant reduction. The bottom frame is pretty well spent when you consider that there are capacitive buttons
Under the screen when it is turned off, the middle button is shaped like a circle, so that when off it feels to imitate an iPhone, but when you touch any button with display, 3 buttons light. At the top we find the typical (camera, LED notifications …), making a flash LED for selfies .
In the back we find the camera which protrudes slightly, LED flash and, at the bottom, a speaker with a small bump to not block too the sound when on a table. The back cover can be removed to access the 2 slots for SIM and microSD cards, but the battery can not be removed.
At the top we find the 3.5 mm jack and a microphone noise cancellation, on the bottom and side of the box to the left side edge, the microUSB connector and microphone, and on the right edge we find the power buttons and volume, leaving the completely clean left edge.
the side buttons have a good tour , they are not too hard or too soft, and are distinguished relatively well. The main problem I have found is that the power button is too high (remember that we talk about a phablet), so it was not easy to reach it with one hand without having to do real magic.
in conclusion, it is a terminal that section design is more practical than stylish and although could have been better frames bettered, but are not as exaggerated as in other more expensive terminals
a screen average for its price
the display you have this Pop 4 Plus is 5.5 inches and resolution HD (1,280 x 720), resulting in a density of 267 ppp , and its technology is IPS. As expected, the colors are quite natural due to the technology of this screen, and the brightness is sufficient, even under direct sunlight will not go too well although the brightness is at maximum.
viewing angles, although they are not bad, they are not anything special, because when you look over next see how darkens a bit, but considering the price of the terminal, is a quite acceptable screen , with sufficient resolution and will not disappoint if you are looking for something cheap.
During the days that I’ve been using the answer to my touch, although it has not been bad, yes I’ve noticed that lacks some sensitivity , giving the feeling that sometimes I have to touch the screen with a little more force. Anyway, returning to take into account the price, the experience can consider it good
Good performance for day to day and autonomy above average
€ 150 terminals can not be expected highlighting especially in these sections, but it is also true that they are not bad if we consider as was the range of input ago, for example, 2 years. In general, for a modest phone features, I can say I’m satisfied.
The processor that drives this Pop 4 Plus is the Snapdragon 210 processor 4 cores at 1.1GHz and 32 bits. Perhaps, considering the price, you could have chosen a Snapdragon 410 and this section improve significantly. He is accompanied 1.5 GB of RAM I, again, seem rather justitos.
The day to day, with more or less basic applications, browsing normal movement webs and the interface is a terminal, usually quite fluid. I have not come to meet significant stoppages during the days that I’ve used, maybe if some, but nothing worrisome for a mobile 150 €.
in the section games in simplest I have not encountered problems, could run smoothly and could play fluidly , taking care, of course, with the theme that the screen does not respond as well as a high-end.
For some more demanding as Asphalt 8, could run smoothly with graphics that come by default , but yes, the loading screen you will see it more than expected. It takes time to load, but once inside you will not find with tugs during the race. The gyroscope does not react too fast , although I do not think you go to spoil any race.
As for autonomy, I think this is one of the most positive points I have me found in this terminal. While its 2,500 mAh battery seems Justito for a 5.5-inch HD screen, the reality is that ** I could get 1 day and a half days typical mail, something Whatsapp and social networks. If you spend some time with demanding games, you have to put it to charge at the end of the day.
in hours of screen, the terminal is able to hold an entire day with about 4 hours of active screen, a figure that does not stand out, but it is good for the battery capacity. While 2,500 mAh seems a rather small amount, the management system is efficient enough to deliver a good autonomy.
During these days I have used with the launcher that comes by default and I have not used at no time saving energy, so I can say that autonomy has left me happy for what I expected, although we would have liked to try further to provide more accurate data after a while.

decent camera day disastrous night
Here comes a point that I found it quite shocking in a couple of ways, but before that, let’s remember that the resolution of the main camera is 8 MP opening (supposedly) f / 2.0, while the front is 5 MP with f / 2.4. As for video, it is capable of recording with a maximum resolution of 720p at 30 fps.
the time to talk about the experience with cameras has arrived. The front can be said to be decent enough for a terminal 150 €, with a good pictures in perfect light . In low light you will have no choice but to use the LED flash, but it has the problem of being too powerful, so easily you can burn photos, and even blind you.
The rear camera is a matter besides, as day, as you can expect, does some pretty salvageable photos, even good . It has a dynamic range far beyond even captures the detail of a high-end, but we talk about a phone input range, so full daylight pictures will not be wrong.
The problem comes in low light , because I have a habit of putting cameras in all kinds of situations. The photos took in a field area, where there were streetlights illuminating a bit far away, but close enough to light the way, and results were almost totally black pictures .
Even when taking photos at the streetlights own, caught minimal lighting, which I found odd. I did the next night was compared with HTC One S with CM 12.1 oldest my mobile, and the result was an overwhelming victory for the Taiwanese. I did not understand, how could that captures much less light than the One S if they had the same aperture f / 2.0?
The answer came to me when I checked the details of the photo, and that there appeared that the camera aperture was f / 2.8 . Seeing this, I deleted the night shots (which were basically an almost entirely black image) and took for my veteran winner. Maybe it was a thing of the terminal in particular, but the opening was shown in all the pictures.
Problem app gallery? Problem I tried terminal specifically? ¿Sensor wrong? Not the slightest idea, but if you buy this terminal, for God’s sake, do not go to take pictures at night, because even back flash will save them.
As for the camera application itself is not a disaster as some Chinese manufacturers , is relatively intuitive, with a sufficient amount of modes, the most basic, not complicate your life. It is not too fast camera, but not despair, but to come out good pictures you need to take your time to focus.
As for HDR mode, require as 3 or 4 extra seconds and the result no improvement in excess , even at night, where it remains the same disaster. In general, if you want to take pictures with this terminal, which has a number of rather high light, in those moments will behave well, I’d say even better than the average mobile of 150 €.
A current software, but with much bloatware
the most positive aspect of this point is that it comes from the factory with Android Marshmallow 6.0 , with all the advantages that it, like the Doze mode, permits or management Now on Tap. Unfortunately we did not encounter Android pure, but it brings its own layer of customization, somewhat aggressive, but retains several features of the purest version of the operating system.
As a screen on the far left , we find a kind of news feed and time that could function more fluidly , because not infrequently takes several seconds to load. Fortunately, in managing homescreens (leaving pressed in a place free of a screen) you can disable this, which I highly recommend.
Of the 16 GB of storage that brings sufficient in the end are about 10.5 GB for user , slightly less than many other terminals. The problem is that brings a considerable amount of bloatware , where we see also some games that probably will not play in life. Luckily no possibility of putting a microSD up to 32 GB.
Aesthetically is not too ugly layer , especially because it retains many vestiges of Material Design, and some features do not change, as the curtain notifications or paragraph settings. No decline only device performance, so that we could consider an almost light coat (especially if you turn off the screen on the left).
As for bloatware, brings too much for my taste, and not only the typical apps by Google, but several own Alcatel will probably not use (although I admit that there is some that has potential to be useful) and several somewhat simple games. Fortunately, at least part of these applications can be uninstalled without problem .
Alcatel Pop 4 Plus, the opinion of Engadget Android
When an analysis is made or a device is judged, must be done taking into account the price of the same , because often there is much controversy about a terminal with good specifications but very cheap when compared to other folding it in price. Always keep in mind the price of mobile.
Speaking of a mobile 150 € such as Pop Alcatel 4 Plus, which is also a phablet, is a terminal that would consider quite “affordable” , it has very good qualities as, for example, autonomy (get a day and a half with such a device I found positive), but also has flaws like the camera in low light.
it is not the best of your price range, as there are beasts like pulling Xiaomi, but if you want something you do not have to bring China and can buy almost immediately, Pop 4 Plus could get into your list . There are absences that we consider important, such as NFC, and some not so much, as the fingerprint sensor, but are forgivable seeing its price.
I think that throughout this analysis has become clear that it has had on consider what it costs this terminal, without comparing the highest end of the year, it would lose everything. Considering the kind of terminal that is, there are our notes:
- Hardware compensated
- Good autonomy
- Android Marshmallow series
- Vision outdoors
- The camera night
- Too much bloatware
