Perhaps most convenient, before presenting some of the amazing recipes that can be made from oats, is to briefly review the definition, origin and properties of this cereal, which is increasingly positioned in the West as the queen of its genus.
Oatmeal: origin and properties
In this sense, you can start to say that Oatmeal is a cereal, born from a plant, belonging to the genus poaceae. It is believed to be native to Central Asia, where it was cultivated, even though it wasn´t the basis of human food, but animal feed, as is currently the case in Europe, where it is regarded as an element of fodder, that is, to feed livestock.
In this way, it is America, especially in South America, the continent that consumes it most as a human food, taking advantage of the great nutritional properties contained in this cereal, which sometimes exceeds wheat, rice and maize in its production.
Oatmeal, even when it contains gluten, so it is not an option for those celiacs, it is one of the natural foods that can provide more energy and nutrients, such as vitamins B1, B2, E, or minerals such as Iron , Calcium, Zinc and Magnesium.
Also, in this cereal you can find a lot of carbohydrates, fiber, and at least six important amino acids, fundamental for the proper functioning of the human body.
As for its form of consumption, the most common is the preparation with milk or water, which is taken at breakfast, also, another common way is to use the presentation in flakes, to accompany some other cereal and take it with yogurt and fruits.
However, while these options can be quite practical, delicious and nutritious, they are not the only ways you can prepare this powerful cereal. Here are some creative recipes, which in addition to delicious ones, will allow you to benefit from the great properties of oatmeal:
Spinach quiches, oat-based
A nutritious way to take advantage of oats, and which can benefit especially those who try to carry a diet where wheat flour is not included, will be the spinach quiche, based on oats, which is also a new and rich pla vegetarian.
To prepare it, it will be necessary to have at hand the following ingredients: one and a half ( 1/2) cups of oats in flakes / five (5) tablespoons of butter or margarine / three (3) eggs / medium ( 1/2 ) pound of fresh spinach / one hundred (100 grams) grams of gouda cheese / one and a half ( 1/2 ) milk cream aza / one (1) leek / one (1) thyme fish / salt / pepper / and olive oil.
Once all the ingredients have been gathered, you can start by cooking, bleaching and draining the spinach. Once this process has been completed, they must be cut in a rustic way, combined with the leek, which has been cut into pieces, and sautéed with a little olive oil, one salt point and another of pepper.
After the process is complete, they are reserved, and begin with the preparation of the dough. For this, once the oven has been turned on, to preheat it to 180 degrees, they are mixed in order: oats, an egg, tablespoons of butter, salt and thyme, and mixed until a homogeneous dough is achieved. The extended dough is placed in a pre-greased quiche pan and carried to the oven for about 20 minutes.
After this time, the cooked dough will be removed from the oven, and unmoulded, the sauteed spinach will spread over it, and will be covered with the cheese. Also, in a separate bowl, the eggs, cream, with a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper will be whisked, and poured over the spinach as well. It is taken back to the oven, this time for about thirty minutes, when it is taken out, and is ready to serve. This dish can be accompanied by meat or salad.
One of the most fun ways to add oats to breakfast, elevens or even dinner, will be to make it in the form of pancakes. For this it will be necessary to gather the following elements: three (3) bananas / one and a half ( 1/2) cups of oats in flakes or flakes / one (1) cup of almond milk / one (1) tablespoon of butter or margarine / two (2) tablespoons of honey / a pool of vanilla essence / zest of an orange.
At the time of preparation, all ingredients should be poured into a blender or food processor, and activate the device until a homogeneous and creamy mixture is obtained. In a hot frying pan, place some butter or coconut oil, and add a little dough, which spreads to form a film. When the pancake starts to look dry on top, it turns cityly. It is removed when golden brown on both sides. It can be accompanied with fruits, jam and honey.
Finally, another creative way to incorporate oatmeal, and prepare the usual but much healthier and more nutritious dishes is the popular oatmeal pizza, which offers those who eat it all the flavor of pizza, without the fault of the calories provided by a dish made in a based on wheat flour.
To prepare it, it will be necessary to have on hand six (6) tablespoons of oatmeal in flakes / one (1) teaspoon of sugar / one (1) egg / one (1) teaspoon of vanilla/medium essence (1/2) tablespoon of oatmeal / one (1) teaspoon of baking powder / three (3) spoon liquid milk.
Once all the ingredients are counted, a bowl will be taken where oat flakes, oatmeal, baking powder and sugar will be mixed. The egg, vanilla and milk shall then be incorporated, mixing until a homogeneous and manageable dough is obtained.
Once this point has been retrieved, the dough is expanded over a pan, and it is baked at 180 degrees for about ten minutes. The dough is removed, and coated with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and preferred ingredients. Again the preparation is taken to the oven, for about ten minutes more, after which it is ready to eat.
