Shridhar Chillal, a man of Hindu origin, aged 78, has been listed by the Guinness Book of Records of 2016 as the man with the “longest nails in the world”.
More than half a century growing nails
This man hasn’t cut his nails since 1952 and they’re 9 meters long. The longest nail is that of the thumb, which with its spiral shape reaches 197 centimeters. The one corresponding to the ring finger, has a measure of 181.6 cm; the dimensions of the fingernail, 179.1 cm and the regards of the index finger, a length of 164.5 cm. Chillal decided to let his nails grow following a blow caused by a teacher of the school, because he had broken a nail.
After an intense and arduous search for a partner, Chillal, when he was 29 years old, married a sister-in-law of his brother. But before, he was virtually rejected by more than 10 candidates to share his days. “if the girl agreed to marry, her parents said that I would strangle her and refuse. If the parents agreed, the girl said she wouldn’t marry such a dirty person,” he said.
Difficulties and rejections
Because of his long fingernails, he has faced many attitudes of rejection, including from his own family, who did not like or visit him. No one helped him wash his clothes, but despite the enormous difficulties of finding a good job, he managed to survive as a photographer. Despite this, he says that his greatest achievement has been to be included in the Guinness Book,
Recently, he assured the media:
“Now that I am 78, my nails are much more delicate because of the age, so my wish is to preserve them in a museum.”
Throughout the world, many individuals do whatever it takes to achieve a second of fame and this goal, many prefer it in the Guinness Records.
