Concept and etymology of Curriculum Vitae
In the field of work and academics, it is known as curriculum vit e the written document that tells about the career and merits that an individual has followed throughout his professional performance, which is also currently requested as a first requirement to apply to a job offer.
Etymologically, the expression curriculum vítae – which can also be found abbreviated as C.V or simply curriculum – comes from Latin, and can be translated into Spanish literally as a “life race”, as recorded in the Pan-Hispanic Dictionary of Dudas, edited by the Royal Spanish Academy of Language, in which you can also find the definition that signifies it as “the relationship of personal data, academic training, work activity and merits” obtained by a person.
When it comes to making the Cvite curriculum itself, there is no specific format to follow, because everyone can give him the orientation and diagramming he wants, thus giving it a personal touch. However, there are a number of general patterns that can guide you when preparing such a document, in order to do so as accurately and completely as possible.
Data to include a Cvite
In this sense we will start by defining what are the basic elements that should be present in any Curriculum Vítae. Below are the six mandatory parts (since more can be added, without exceeding the space of a quart) and the order that any such document must contain:
Personal Data (First and Last Name, Nationality, Place of Birth, Date of Birth, Identification Number, Room Address, Room Phone, Mobile Phone, Email)
Studies carried out (This order will be followed by each level of studies, starting with the last realized and in chronological order descendant: Title obtained, year in which it was obtained, Institution where the specific study was carried out, the city where it is located).
Other Studies Done (Also a list will be made of other courses, workshops or diplomas that the person has performed, which will be done in the same way as the data in the section of Academic Training.
Languages it handles (They will be placed in the following order: name of the language, level reached, institution where it has been learned if it were the case, the year in which it was finished, the city where the study was carried out).
Work Experience (The relationship will be done from the last job performed, even if it is currently linked to it, and then will be detailed in descending chronological order, as follows: Charge performed, dates from beginning until finished, Company where he worked, City where he is located, telephone where information can be verified).
Merits (In case some distinctions, awards or recognitions have been obtained throughout the race, they will also be placed on the CV as follows: award obtained, year in which he was awarded, institution that awarded the recognition).
It is also important to note that although the common denominator refers to this document as if it were actually the entirety of studies and jobs that the person has had throughout his life, it is actually a summary, which should not exceed the length of a quartile, so the person must know how to choose the priority data to review in it.
Especially since within a selection process involving several applicants, the accuracy and good diagramming of this document will be highly valued, allowing the process manager to quickly see the data that interest him.
It is also important to be clear that not everything should be included in these types of documents. For example, small jobs should be omitted or that have nothing to do with the company to which we intend to relate, as well as those with whom we have not ended on good terms, since we want to outline in our resume precisely those data that we serve as good references and make us the ideal candidate for the job sought.
