This may 17 is celebrated, for the thirteenth consecutive year, the Day Internet, a day dedicated to one of the most revolutionary technologies of the last century, an invention that has changed drastically the day to day running of the society and without which we no longer imagine to live.
On this occasion, the events of the Day of the Internet in Spain revolve around the empowerment digital, that is to say, the capacity of the technology to improve the lives of people in situation of social exclusion and the organizations that help.
“The technology can help change the lives of people, especially those living in a situation of exclusion,” says the president of the Association of Internet Users (AUI), Miguel Pérez Subías. This theme tries to show the ability of the technology to be “a tool of social transformation” that can be worth the collectives most in need.

In 2016, the number of internet users was of € 3,419 million and in 2015, 3.010 million, which represents a growth of over 25% in the last two years.
In Spain there is 37,87 million users, a good rise with respect to the previous year, when the figure just went up: went from 35.7 million in 2015 to 35,71 million in 2016.
The 58% of the world’s population still can’t afford an internet connection. There is a general consensus that a “reasonable price” is less than 5% of the GDP per capita for a basic level of broadband services, but until that is an excessive price to the internet slow and unreliable in many countries.
2.789 million users of social networks in the world.
The buzz has been great. In 2016 were 2.307 billion, and in 2015, 2.078 million. In Spain, it has passed the 22 million users who had networks in 2015 and 2016 to 25 million in 2017.
