The games sales in the Uk lower in 2019; the market is not reduced since 2012

The market for games in physical format is considerably reduced, and the digital has barely grown during the past year.

The british market of video games has collapsed, something that has not happened since the year 2012. The data, that yes, have been obtained solely through the sales of games in physical format, so that it is possible that this delay in the volume of market in reality. The digital market, for its part, has grown very little, for what has not been compensated for the decline in traditional sales.

During 2019 the best-selling game in the stores has been FIFA 20, with more than 1.5 million units. However, what is certain is that the title sports EA falls far short of the records of its predecessor: FIFA 19 sold 1.9 million units in 2018.

Only the title of Electronic Arts, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have managed to overcome the million of units. The third best selling title of the year in the shops of Great Britain has been Mario Kart 8 Delluxe exclusive to Nintendo Switch, below 500,000 units.

The top ten best selling games in Uk during 2019 have been:

1. FIFA 20 (1.502.191)
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (1.192.211)
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (465.062)
4. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (438.465)
5. Red Dead Redemption 2 (306.392)
6. FIFA 19 (278.417)
7. Pokémon Sword (273.991)
8. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (267.285)
9. Grand Theft Auto V (247.357)
10. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 (237.226)

The physical sales are down 19.8%; the digital only go up 1.1%

The total sales in physical format according to the data provided by GfK has been of 17.6 million units. This represents a decline of 19.8% with respect to the total volume of games sold in physical format in 2018.

The digital sales have grown, , but marginally: in 2019, the digital revenues have been 1.1% more than in 2018, so that the decrease in sales of games in physical format has not been compensated with the increase of digital sales.

In short, there was a decline in the sales of the game in this market since the year 2012. Among the factors may be the end of the cycle of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, that are going to receive in 2020 its successor. In fact, in 2012, was the situation: the sales of games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 are slowed down considerably in the presence on the horizon of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

it does Not seem, therefore, that political tensions and economic uncertainty by the Brexit has had an impact on sales and we are faced with a decline in strictly cyclic by the imminent arrival of new platforms.
