The memories of 64GB for Nintendo games Switch will be a reality in 2020

The manufacturer Macronix will be ready in the second half, and Nintendo will be his first clliente to receive them.

The newspaper financial Taipei Times has revealed that Macronix, the company that creates the memory chips used in memory cards of the Nintendo games Switch, has announced that it will launch in 2020 units of 64GB of capacity and indicates that it will provide Nintendo. Therefore, from next year it will be possible to make games in physical format for the Nintendo’s console to reach that size.

The manufacturer taiwan produces reports for various companies and has confirmed to the investors that the massive production of chips 3D NAND 64GB is going to perform in the second half of 2020, so that it will become the first taiwanese company that will manufacture by itself this technology.

Start with memory 3D NAND 48 layers, but will reach the 192 in the year 2022

this product will use a design 3D NAND 48 layers. The goal of Macronix is to reach the 96 layers in 2021 and 192 layers in 2022. They are now using technology flat 19 nanometers, introduced in February 2019.

Macronix feeds with memories to manufacturers of specialized devices, such as drones, defibrillators, watches, and, also, the cartridges of Nintendo game Switch.

Nintendo will be the first company to receive these memories

It has been confirmed that Nintendo will be the first company to receive the product, so the goal of the company to offer game cards 64GB will become a reality eventually in the next year, after multiple delays due to technological limitations. So far, we’ve only used memories of up to 32GB, as in the case of The Witcher 3.

For the type of memory, we can rule out that we will use to replace the internal memory of Switch (only 32GB), as it is the type of memory that the company has used in the cards game. With this new availability will increase the technical possibilities, although it may be just as important for the companies to achieve that with this movement, lower the cost of production of the memories of 32GB for game cards and thereby reduce the number of titles for the console that require additional downloads despite its purchase in physical format in order not to bear the costs of that size of memory.

In the same way, that Nintendo is guaranteed to be the first company to receive these memories may respond to both the general desire to have reserves of this storage for the future or specific plans and, therefore, to have among its plans a game for the second half of the year that will require that amount of memory.

Macronix expects an improvement in its financial results

With these new products, Macronix hopes to enhance its revenues by device manufacturers medical, industrial and vehicles to achieve 50% of the total long-term revenue for the manufacturer.

For this reason, they are investing 15% of their annual income in R+D, which has enabled them to record almost 8000 patents. 20% of its workforce is focused, in fact, in research and development.

The company next year will celebrate their 30th anniversary and will give you a bonus of 10,000 new taiwan dollars (about 300 euros) to each employee to commemorate the milestone.
