'The Witcher': the showrunner of the series of Netflix responds to complaints by the narrative structure of the first season

premiered at the end of the year, but ‘The Witcher’ was, without a doubt, one of the series most commented 2019. Yes, it was not all praise, and one of the aspects most criticized was narrative structure chosen by Lauren Hissrich, showrunner of the series, to tell the story of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in this first season.

There were a few viewers who were confused with the timeline of the series. In Espinof up we made a guide to make life easier to those who feel lost watching it. Hissrich has responded now to those complaints a round of questions and answers made on Reddit, where it has pointed out the following:

The response of the showrunner

The narrative structure was used so that we could count the short stories of Geralt (in my opinion the foundation of all the world of ‘The Witcher’) while Ciri and Yennefer could also be part of the action. These are stories that do not happen simultaneously, so we knew we had to play a little bit with it. This will change in season two as their stories begin to converge.

Not expecting it to be the most hotly contested of the series. I’ve heard that a lot of people saying “I don’t até cabos until episode 4!”… that is exactly when you expected people to do. I think that it is a matter of a personal choice. I like films with structures that I have to decipher as you go… but other people do not. In this case, the people who hated you are lucky because the structure will be different in season 2.

Hissrich he had already dropped the change when he spoke of the differences to the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski before the premiere of the series from Netflix. On paper this is an idea with a lot of logic to be able to have Ciri and Yennefer before without sacrificing the first solo adventures of Geralt, but the key is in the execution, and I have my doubts that this explanation will be sufficient for them.

anyway, what was clear after the end of the first season is that this would change in the already confirmed second. Sure some flashback there, but ‘The Witcher’ will be more conventional and will be then when you have to prove if you really can get to be a great series.
