    In the seventh century Muslim forces conquered extensive territories. Once settled in the region, first needed a place to build a mosque. The simple design, based on the house of the Prophet Mohammed, provided the elements that were incorporated into the new mosques and other buildings by the early Muslims, or adapted to existing buildings as churches for their own use.
