HTC Desire 601: Review and user experience
As we saw in the analysis of Desire 500 , HTC has been concerned in the latter part of the year strengthen its midrange devices . That section of the market is a good chunk of total sales, so all your new Desire range is aimed at him and win the maximum number of potential users with the 300, 500 models ( review ), 601, and 700 which were presented recently. Specifically, in this post we will analyze Desire 601 a mid-range phone with a content size, nice and similar to the One design but plastic finish.
601 is, as mentioned, in the middle range. It has a 400 Snapdragon dual-core processor at 1.4GHz and Adreno 305 GPU , is surely one of the latest handsets from HTC to include Qualcomm components, because remember that will choose processors ST-Ericsson, Broadcom and Spreadtrum for your next low-end midrange. It also has 1GB of RAM memory, enough to move freely between applications without lag too apparent. The screen is 4.5 inches , an ideal size, in my opinion, but QHD resolution 540 × 960 pixels , which gives about 245 ppi . As internal memory has 8GB , who stays in a 5GB available to the user, although like his fellow category has microSD slot from which expand up to 64GB capacity, in addition to Dropbox 25GB free for 2 years.
It runs on Android 4.2.2 and often get used as HTC, is designed with the version Sense 5.0 . In the multimedia section, the Desire has 601 front speaker system BoomSound we’ve seen in the One range, but does not include Beats Audio technology. camera is rear 5MP 28mm f/2.0 with LED flash and a VGA front. The battery, which is removable, has a capacity of 2100 mAh . Finally, note that it is support 4G LTE networks high speed, is welcome to go including support more terminals in each time. This is the complete list of specifications:
- TFT 4.5 inch qHD 540 × 960 (245 ppi)

design and materials
At first glance, the front of the HTC Desire 601 is very similar to the HTC One , ie, we find the double front speaker at the top and bottom of the screen. Being a mid-range terminal has chosen to put a plastic finish at the rear. This plastic is not slippery like the Desire 500, but is matte finish, giving a very nice touch and comfortable to grip thanks to its curved shapes and edges. In the front, the grids under the speakers, the front camera, sensors and LED hide notification, have a silvery color, simulating the aluminum, but are also plastic. Overall the phone is quite nice and the finishes and plastics are not bad or no cracks.
The volume buttons are located on the right side, while the ignition, and the Jack of 3.5mm audio are at the top. On the back is located the camera and flash centrally and a microphone. That is disassembled back to access the removable battery, and microSD and microSIM slots.
Its screen has a size of 4.5 inches with a resolution qHD 540 × 960 , which falls a bit short of what we are used to and it is possible to differentiate the pixels depending on the content and display it in the distance where we are, but overall it looks pretty good. This display is protected by Corning Gorilla technology Glass 2 , and like I in the One and the Desire range 500, the brightness level is very high and you can see perfectly in broad daylight. Colors are not saturated, showing generally quite natural , maybe a little, very little, blue, and viewing angles are good. As I say, the worst point is the resolution.
The rear camera of HTC Desire Ultrapixel 601 does not use the technology we’ve seen in other terminals of the Taiwanese brand, instead has a 5MP sensor BSI f/2.0, 28mm lens , and LED flash with up to 5 levels of intensity. The camera does not do bad pictures with good lighting conditions is very fast focusing and shooting, but the images are quite regular, and as often happens when falling light quality and low noise appears. No highlights at all and there is a clear blur and detail in each shot. If we compare with the photos shows the Desire 500 are worse, no doubt, so do not get the best mount components in a terminal, a priori, less range.
As we have said repeatedly in other analyzes, the software camera is really full and allows many settings, as ISO, exposure, contrast, filters and effects that can be applied directly to see how it would do before photography. It also has the function Zoe HTC , which different photos of the same instant, creating moving images, and function Video Highlights , to create 30-second videos with images and music we have in the 601.
Here are some sample photos made with the HTC Desire 601 (you can download them full resolution on this link ):
Software, user experience and performance
As we said before, the HTC Desire 601 runs on Android 4.2.2 Personalized coat with classic Sense version 5.0 and between adding features and changes in the system is mainly BlinkFeed the feed reader or news and highlights infinity found in the first desktop screen whose content can be customized in different sources, media and social networks , although this Sense 5.5 has been improved, as we saw in One Max analysis.
Sense does not slow down system, 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM are more than enough to move everything smoothly, which is what is expected in a device such as this. Daily use is satisfactory, switching between applications is fast by double-clicking the Home button to access the multitasking. Social networking, instant messaging, multimedia applications and music work perfectly at 601. games also make the grade in this Desire and can even play, for example, Asphalt 8 without problems, but yes, not with the maximum quality.
Inclusion of speaker system BoomSound is appreciated, especially when playing music or videos, listening to tall, pretty, but as often happens in the integrated speakers, the bass are fair. Here are a few performance test results or benchmarks, that ye may put to Desire 601 numerical situation with respect to other terminals
Desire battery 601 is 2100 mAh and although at first glance may seem short, it is enough to spend a whole day with normal networking, navigation, messaging and call some use. Sure, if given more intensive use will surely fall short and have to be recharged mid-day, or switch to another, which is removable for that. Noteworthy consumption at rest , which is very good with just spending, and with the Energy Savings that can be activated from Settings will we win a few hours of autonomy when we need them most.
601 is more of a phone all midrange. No stands practically no section , but at the same time is not really bad in any way, although there are several that leaves much to be desired, as the resolution of the screen, or the quality of chamber. The design, in my opinion, is nice, very light, easy to hold and carry.Sense 5.0 with Android 4.2.2 and works very well in daily use no problems, everything working fluid, soft and it will be enough for any average user, without doubt one of the best customizations that manufacturers have put on the market in recent years. LTE network support is a nice touch as we begin to see more terminals. problem for HTC Desire with the 601 is the same as the Desire 500 price . Desire has a free cost 601 369 €, a high price to fight with their competitors and is only attractive by promotion with any operator.
