'Uncharted': Sony bet by the director of 'Street Cloverfield 10' for the problematic adaptation of the video game

The adaptation to the movies of ‘Uncharted’ starts to move again. A few weeks ago, the project lost its director, Shawn Levy, however, Sony has already found a substitute: Dan Trachtenberg, known for his opera prima, the interesting ‘Street Cloverfield 10’ (’10 Cloverfield Lane’). If you have more luck that the previous filmmakers, ‘Uncharted’ will be his second feature film.

Trachtenberg also took on an episode of ‘Black Mirror’ (3×02, ‘Playtest’) and is responsible for the pilot of ‘The Boys’. It is already the fifth filmmaker try to make the movie of this popular video game franchise of PlayStation. Previously, Sony tried it with Seth Gordon, David O. Russell, Neil Burger, and Levy.

unlike video games, the film ‘Uncharted’ will tell the youth of Nathan Drake, the treasure hunter who will be played by Tom Holland (‘The impossible’, ‘Spider-Man: the Homecoming’). This move may be risky because, first of all need to have the enthusiastic support of the fans of the franchise, but if it goes well it will be a great success as they have a young star (22 years) around which can do at least a trilogy.

Joe Carnahan wrote a draft of the script which is subsequently passed through the hands of Rafe Judkins; Mark Walker and Jon Rosenberg are the last writers contracted by Sony to give shape to the film. Currently there are no dates for the start of the filming or the premiere though Variety notes that the production should start between summer (a time that Holland was free from the promotion of ‘Spider-Man: Far from home’) and the end of the year. Let’s hope that this time, with this new director, has more luck.
