No one as faithful as a dog

The dog is man’s best friend, but hunger his worst enemy. This is the story of a faithful friend fallen out of favor.

With a voice too melancholy and with watery eyes, Eduardo López, better known in the underworld as “the street artist”, who portrays people and sells his drawings in bars, restaurants and all kinds of public places, recounts the loss of his best friend: Chester.

This dog lasted with Eduardo about 10 years and accompanied him to wherever this street artist went. After he lasted a decade in jail, when he left he encountered a puppy he named Chester.

At 58, “Lalo” had only the support of a can. This poor Colombian who fell out of favor, now he has been left alone and knows nothing about his family. “A long time ago I do not see her, nor amI interested, for they are useless, because they abandoned me and never came to visit me. The only family I had was that puppy, but they killed him,” he said with a smile, hiding his pain.

Many joyful moments were recorded in the memory of this character, such as when mechanics tried to assault him and Chester defended him to claw and fang, biting their legs and the back. “my old companion never abandoned me and was very different from that crap of selfish and callous humanity. Since the police don’t defend me because of my physical appearance, I had my keeper there. Now I’m like the saying that I don’t have a mother or a dog to bark at me,” Eduardo recounted.

“With this winter so pouring, I would slam with Chester and get hot, but the wickedness of the people has no limits and a few days ago I found him lying behind the 20, all massacred lane,” he added.

Eduardo is 58 years old, lasted 10 years prisoner in a prison and since then, he knows nothing about his family. “Long ago I don’t see her, and I don’t care, because they are useless, because they abandoned me and never came to visit me,” she said with a smile, hiding her pain.

He regained freedom six years ago and arrived at the pearl, hoping to succeed. As there are few opportunities for people with few resources and criminal records, he took advantage of the greatest of his gifts: painting.

A few days ago he slept on the street and was indiscriminately beaten by four mechanics, he says, for just asking for some coins. “They caught me like I was a football, because I was a cell phone thief, they didn’t even respect my age. I don’t steal, I draw.”

He now sleeps in the open, suffering from the harsh winter, as he has nowhere to put his head. “I was burned by the tent where I slept with my little ones that there were too many: blankets and souvenirs,” the street artist said.

This character fell out of favor and forgotten by society and the state, he only had the company of a dog he calls Chester, his best friend.

I got tired of going to the police to report the times people have beaten me, because before it turned out in the brig. I have no one to complain to,” Eduardo recalled, before the fatal loss of his friend.

Many cases of destitution and of people sleeping on the street, without a plate of food for several days, exposing themselves to the sun, water and the danger of the streets, occur in the world, without anyone having their hearts to shake.
