Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1: Review thoroughly and user experience

Well, well … what have we here?. Come on, if you are new to aparatejo not how or why is over in my hands . And it is time, after a few days of heavy use (but really intense), to provide a complete review of the latest model of the Galaxy range regarding tablets are concerned. But not expect a “review type” , with typical features, benefits, what brings and what not, performance testing, comparisons (some small mention of whether there will be other, etc.).

This time I’ll do it in a practical way, and not so technical, because I think there is no other way to do . Obviously I’m talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.01 , a “tablet” (quoted) really great and I would say even that can not be compared to any other tablet sector now. The first impression before going into detail is AWESOME . It’s that easy. It has left me totally amazed, and much of this is due to S-Pen, discussed in detail below, but it is the icing to catalog this tablet one of the best (if not the best) market .

* Clarification : keep in mind the focus of this analysis, as well as aspects focusing the operation of the tablet.

First Impressions

start with the first impressions conveyed to me out of the box. By keeping it for the first time in their hands, my surprise was the “light” that was, since apparently looks like a pretty heavy tablet , but are “only” 600 grams compared to the Asus 680 Tranformer or 650 of the iPad. The difference may not be much, but noticeable when in your hand.

After getting remove all protective plastic around her, which seemed excessive, and proceed to the visual inspection I have to say that even being a plastic material, is of very good quality, and looks like nothing seedy or “sales”, however much people to strive to that .

The screen is great, and the side speakers, even sacrificing some size (increase in this case), are very well integrated. It is true that there is a small tablet, but when talking about these devices, a few millimeters or less are completely irrelevant . Touch is also very good, and can be held with one hand perfectly without allowing it to be heavy (always within limits). When starting for the first time surprised me also the sharpness of the screen, and the video playback is coming when you really realize what you can offer.

first minutes

When starting for the first time, and follow the appropriate steps, there comes a time when we can add our Dropbox account, so we deduce that is pre-installed, but what good is that if we do, we will give away up 48GB of space for 2 years , which is no small feat.

already in place, behavior is very fluid, with very smooth transitions between desktops with a response very good screen . Menus and settings are very style of the latest models of the house, but the truth is they have done a good job in terms of personalization layer. Some menus very intuitive and accessible through the screen, and still quite differing from the “classic” of Android, I think it’s great.

After tinkering a bit for their “insides” view installed applications , settings, etc, have the feeling that you have in your hands is not an Android more, not a Tablet more , and that what we’ve seen so far, despite being good, not nothing compared to what you can offer this “little” junk. And it has.

What’s so special?

Of particular has many things, but the most important is, indeed, the S-Pen . For those who do not know what I’m talking about, the S-Pen is a pen that brings the range of Samsung Note (as phones Note, or Note 2), and that gives us some extra features that make it really interesting. This pen has the characteristic that not work with a smartphone / tablet conventional , which already gives us an idea that is not your typical standard pen we can buy in the Chinese. I wanted to leave a special section to discuss the S-Pen, but inevitably naming continuously, so we’ll do with the overall review.

And after this “brief” introduction, let’s see what really is able to provide the Note 10.1 on the day. Like I said, I will explain how I have been using and impressions conveyed to me, that give you more data, numbers or the like.

everyday at work

first one I tried was the odds that I was the S-Pen versus finger. Obviously you can scroll through menus, desktops, etc.. both “a finger” as with the S-Pen, but this has a small button that gives access to some extra . For starters, if we keep it down and then click on the screen for a few seconds, there will be a screenshot, but with an important difference compared to a catch “conventional” to do it this way, not only do the photo, but it opens in an editor quickly we can cut, draw, color or write about it . also comes with Polaris office suite , which lets you create text documents or spreadsheets a very full, almost as if it were a computer. Viewing PDFs’s also possible, but the chances are smaller than Adobe or other programs, since we can not write about them directly, or underline or write.

Speaking of text editors, is time to mention another great feature of the Note: S-Note . It is an application that becomes a notebook, in which we can take notes in different ways, with some default templates or a blank sheet to start from scratch. This is, for me, the big difference compared to other tablets, and what makes it really special. I can only say is a tool spectacular, magnificent, incredible … I’ll explain some reasons, and incidentally mention other interesting extras.

In my case, I decided to try thoroughly college Note , checking if it really is so useful and easy to take notes and notes as Samsung says. On Monday I took her class for the first time, leaving aside the classic pen and paper, to which one looked at me weird to see that I was about to take notes “with it.” Here I began to see the potential that he could offer.

At first I wondered if it would be as fast as with paper , because some teachers have blood instead of kerosene in veins and their classes and explanations should slow by half to grab a quarter of what they say, but after 2 minutes that feeling disappeared .

pen accuracy is really good, quick and you are missing anything traditional. Quite the contrary. With the Note have at our disposal a range of colors, sizes, and types of writing gums still being so great, it is really fast switching between them . Support the hand on the screen is not a problem, since we can activate only write using the stylus, which prevents us writings accidental. When we write a floating window (you can close if not need) from which with one click change the color, size or tip, and we can move to any part of the screen so you do not disturb us. I’ve won with this clarity of notes as colors everything is cleaner, clearer and easier to understand that everything in black or blue. But the thing does not end there.

As many know, the university based his notes on a few hundred thousand PDF file you have to download at your own risk, so I instead of printing them, I’ve gotten to Dropbox and consultants from the tablet itself. Thanks to multitasking I can switch between the PDF and my notebook , which allows me to have a very small space all I need for class. And as I said, thanks to Adobe or similar application, we can take notes on the same PDF, with the advantage that if we do it from Dropbox will sync automatically. Although there is another interesting detail that comment.

If you have no short term memory atrophied, I have said that we have a very useful way to take screenshots and edit them at the moment, because thanks to that, we can capture the PDF’s, cutting what we want and embed our note of a very fast , which substantially improves our notes. And besides, all those catches we make will remain in the clipboard, so you can use them as many times as you want. This feature is a bonus and is very certain that if we use graphs, charts or diagrams that we fill blank, just take a screenshot and in seconds you’ll have to draw it out and we will not ever. And after shooting us two hours taking notes, with bright colors, drawings, pictures … What do I do with it?

It is logical to think that we will use to study the tablet itself or revise these notes , but there’s more. We can arrange all these notes in folders and / or subfolders, assigning a name to each of them so as to bring the correct order, we also have the ability to synchronize all those notes with Evernote or Google Drive, but it does format S-Note , so with this we make sure to have a copy for safekeeping.

Peeeeeeero have the ability to export to PDF’s that note and send it directly to Dropbox or other services (thanks to sharing capabilities offered by Android). Now we have access to our notes from anywhere. I repeat that despite all this, use is very fast and nothing is wasted in doing all this (beyond the initial moments of “learning”).

not all work

Indeed, not all work, so we’ll talk a little about “the other side” of the Galaxy Note 10.1, the returns to the natural “habitat” of the tablets. Starting with the screen, which is the most commonly seen, that is spectacular , with a twinkle amazing and superb sharpness. Video playback is great and looks and listens extremely well, including headphones. Regarding the size “internal” screen has a grid of 7 x 8 icons, which is more than enough to have widgets and shortcuts. The widgets also work luxury allowing large enough for comfortable use but we have to be 1 or 2 max per screen . And to show it, I leave here below a screenshot so you can see that even with 5 widgets, not the feeling of “oppression” and everything is relatively broad yet useful. The desks can be ordered at will, and we can add or remove we want. Initially come May, but we have more or less, according to our needs.

Another very interesting feature that might have mentioned before is the split screen to work . What does this mean? Well we can be surfing the Internet while we’re taking notes, viewing a PDF while writing an email, or a video / music player have open while we are working to Polaris. At first it seems very useful to work, but I left my small screen and becomes useless, but can we do it is for someone else. The downside of this is that we can not do it with all applications, but only with the default ones . Namely: Polaris, Browser (internal), Video / Music, S-Note, E (internal). It would be a hoot to use another browser, for example, or being able to do this with any app.

And Most artists installed by default Photoshop application , but it is a simple mobile application gift. Photoshop is a really complete, and requires some knowledge of the application to take advantage of 100%; layers, filters, brushes … almost like the desktop version.

I also bought in his day when Adobe SketchBook Pro was on sale for € 0.25, and I must say it is amazing how it behaves with this tablet. The possibilities and properties of the S-Pen with different pressure levels are very good, and if we draw too quickly, sharply raising the pen, remains one drawn to “vanish” like a real brush trarara.

Other & Extras

And I think it will be another to summarize in a few lines what remains to comment. First, battery is 7000 mAh, which gives us a real autonomy for at least 10 hours daily use . I really took the time to spare while the screen on and writing. That if you take him in charge; of about 4 hours if you are quite low.

The screen appears to be quite hard, because I’ve gotten some that again with the clock and no trace . At the bottom we see the classic icons Android: back, home, multitasking and other “extra”. Initially used for screen capture fast, but is customizable. In the center always see a small arrow that opens a popup menu with a few applications such as a calculator, calendar, quick note, player … also customizable.

And returning back to S-Pen, as a last trick, if you’re surfing the Internet, for example, and want to write something, by pressing the S-Pen and double clicking on the screen opens a quick note in a floating window , we can write it, paste text previously cut, paint, etc.. So why do not we stop what we are doing.

And I think this and you can get an idea of what we can offer this superb tablet . Obviously not all by any means, as would an article 4 times longer, but to compensate for what is missing, I will make one videoreview as soon as possible so you can see firsthand how it behaves, but if you have any particular questions, you know, comments and try to answer all I can. In closing, I can not help thing highly recommend this tablet , as well as meet the needs “typical” of these devices, has other aspects that make it really awesome. I’ve fallen in love, and I still say that it does not compare at all with other tablet.

Here is a gallery with some pictures so you can compare with a Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus, and in short you will have the videoreview, so stay tuned.
