LineageOS prepares to make the jump to Android Foot by cleaning: removed support for 22 devices

The world of the ROM does not pass through its best time, so pair the world of the root. However, some projects survive better than others, and if there is an example of survival that is LineageOS, born of the ashes of CyanogenMod.

LineageOS used to keep us informed about once a month of progress in his blog, and in the last status update announce the progress of LineageOS 16.0, Android-based Distance, as well as the abandonment of the support 22 devices.

    LineageOS 16, soon

First we start with the good news. The slower updates in the updates LineageOS 14.1 and LineageOS 15.1 have a reason: we are focusing efforts in the next version 16.0, based on Android Walk.

In this new version we don’t know much more, other than that you’re almost on par in functionality to LineageOS 15.1. The work now focuses on make it compatible with the hardware of older devices, and then will start the build official.

22 devices say goodbye to LineageOS

Then the bad news. Will keep 22 devices in total, whose people in charge are not already present, or simply do not want to continue updating. Most of them are older models, although this is precisely one of the virtues of the ROM: to keep old mobiles that are no longer updated. These are the devices that will not receive further updates:

    • Motorola Moto Z2 (albus)
    • Motorola Moto G4 (athene)
    • Motorola Moto X Pure Edition/Style, 2015 (clark)
    • Nexus 7 2013 LTE (deb)
    • the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 WiFi-and-LTE
    • Samsung Galaxy S5 3G (k3gxx)
    • Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 GSM, WiFi and LTE
    • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (ha3g)
    • Xiaomi Mi Max (hydrogen)
    • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (whyred)
    • Xiaomi Redmi 1S (armani)
    • Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (kenzo)
    • Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 LTE (lt03lte)
    • Huawei Ascend Mate 2 (mt2)
    • Oppo N3 (n3)
    • OnePlus X (onyx)
    • HTC 10 (pme)
    • Sony Xperia L (taoshan)
    • LG G3 AT&T, T-Mobile, Canada, international, Korea and Sprint
    • LG G Pad 7.0 WiFi and LTE variants
    • LG G Pad 8.3 (v500)
    • LG G Pad X T-Mobile (v521)

Taking into account that most of these devices have at least four years, it is understandable that it has abandoned its development to focus on new models. However, if you continue to have one of them, all is not lost: always can be a new volunteer to maintain their development (although it is unlikely).
