On this occasion it has been Huawei which has taken advantage of the potential of Artificial Intelligence to develop an app that teaches reading to children with hearing problems.
It’s called StorySign and is able to read children’s books to turn them into sign language, teaching deaf children to read in the process. The application is compatible with ten languages sign of time and can run on any Android device with version 6.0 or higher.

This free tool is able to read a selection of children’s books and translate them into sign language for children with hearing problems can learn to read. In addition, it has a funny avatar designed by Aardman Animations, and children’s books classics of Penguin Random House.
The application StorySign uses Artificial Intelligence to Huawei and the mobile phone camera to detect words. Its operation is very simple (although, yes, we have to have the physical book in question): just open the app, choose a title from the library of StorySign and sustain the mobile on the pages of the physical copy; from there, the avatar Star will be translated into sign language the story as are the words written underlined.
at the moment, StorySign supports ten languages (british, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, irish, belgian, flemish and swiss-German) with a book in each one of them, including “Where is Spot?”, “Peter Rabbit;” A Peep Inside Tale,” and “Three little bunnies”. Fortunately, Huawei claims that its aim is to incorporate “many more books” in the future.
For all Android but better if it is a Huawei
Although StorySign is available on Google Play and is compatible with all smartphones and tablets that have Android 6.0 or higher, Huawei acknowledges that this application is optimized for your devices in several aspects:
Read naturally: the image recognition HiAi allows children to have the mobile in the hand at an angle of 45 degrees and read the book.
Higher accuracy: the optical recognition HiAi allows the app to function with a greater degree of accuracy.
More speed: the performance of the IA will increase the speed at which the book page is loaded in the app, providing a better experience he user.
