Life as a student can be trying at times. With so much going on in our own lives, attempting to pay attention to coursework may seem completely impossible. Between social demands such as hanging out with friends and personal concerns, balancing everything can turn out to be more difficult than you’d expect.
At times, what you need to get rid of the stress and anxiety is to watch something you enjoy. Why not take a look at our five favorite must watch movies and get some motivation to study for that exam or take the upcoming test?
Dead Poets Society (1989)
Dead Poet’s Society is quite possibly one of the most inspirational movies ever written. The story centers around John Keating, played by Robin Williams, an English school teacher with rather unique teaching methods.
He teaches at a boy’s school that is renowned internationally for its high standards of education and sophistication. The downside of this is that the students are constantly pressured to perform by both parents and teachers.
Throughout the film, Keating explores the students’ different personalities and uses his unorthodox teaching methods to help them embrace themselves. It’s a relatable movie modeled on the experiences of the director’s (Peter Weir) own experiences as a child.
The Pursuit of Happiness (2006)
The Pursuit of Happiness is often considered one of Will Smith’s most remarkable roles on television for his performance as Chris Gardner. At the start of the film, Chris sleeps in the subway and barely gets by without eating for days on end.
As the film progresses, we are told a story of perseverance, hard work, making the right choices and always giving it your best. Chris eventually manages to lift himself out of poverty and even buys his own home by the end of the film.
While you are watching these great motivational movies, don’t lag behind on your writing work. Academic demands such as hacks to make your essay longer and submitting a dissertation in a tough deadline might spoil your plans. In such cases, use an online writing service that can do the work on your behalf.
Freedom Writers (2007)
Freedom Writers is a story based on the true story of Erin Gruwell, a teacher that managed to help a group of underprivileged children from a life of poverty to the heights of academic achievement.
Hilary Swank portrays the charismatic teacher in all her glory and does an amazing job at capturing the drive and focus Erin must have had to reach the pinnacle of her lifetime achievement.
This ranks as one of the most inspiring movies ever and tells the tale of unlikely success in the face of doubt. It raises a lot of interesting philosophical narratives while being able to credit the original participants with well-deserved praise.
The Blind Side (2009)
Another story based on real-life events, The Blind Side follows Michael Oher as he attempts to acclimate to his new life on the streets.
While playing football one day, Leigh and her husband Sean, take notice of his skills and offer him a place to stay while he gets everything in his life together. In the meantime, Leigh guides him in the football craft to build his talents, much to his surprise
For people that love a happy ending, you’ll find yourself right at home with Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw’s portrayal of the two loving adoptive parents. The movie also ends on a similarly positive note, but we’ll save you from the spoilers for now.
3 Idiots (2009)
3 Idiots is a 2009 movie based on the works of Indian novelist Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’. Engineering students will relate with the main characters, as the story rotates around three students who are all in engineering school. They didn’t initially intend to do engineering, but parental pressure led them to it.
This is easily one of the top 10 movies for students of all time. It’s a great film because it manages to take serious topics and add humor to it without diminishing the seriousness of the themes it covers.
Conclusion
Motivational movies may not be your cup of tea on a normal day, and we completely understand why. The movies featured on this list are some of the greatest movies ever released. They are amazing not only for their ability to elicit emotions (a few of them are tear-jerkers) but also for the themes they explore, the amazing acting and the message that giving up shouldn’t be an option.
Once you’re done watching them, you’ll hopefully have a little bit more motivation to start that assignment, study for that exam or finish that project that you’ve been procrastinating on for weeks.
