James Cameron wanted to make Jurassic Park

One of the many references to the cinema of the 80’s and 90’s that are in ‘Ready Player One’ is the T-Rex of ‘Jurassic Park’ (‘Jurassic Park’, 1993), one of the biggest hits of Steven Spielberg. It was so important to Hollywood, we’ve seen it so many times and has been the subject of so many homages, that it’s hard to imagine what it would be like the movie with another filmmaker.

especially when it is one so different to Spielberg as James Cameron. But it could have happened. In a recent interview for HuffingtonPostCameron reveals that he wanted to make ‘Jurassic Park’ and was on the point of buying the rights to the novel by Michael Crichton. “[Spielberg] beat me by a few hours“, recalls the director of ‘Titanic’ or ‘Avatar’.

We don’t know how to react to Cameron after losing the option to adapt the material but you believe that it would have been wrong and to see ‘Jurassic Park’ realized that Spielberg was the right director because he did a family movie. Cameron explains that his adaptation would have been more violent, similar to ‘Aliens’ (1986):

“When I saw the movie, I realized that I was not the right person to make the film, what was it. Because he made a movie of dinosaurs for kids, and mine would have been ‘Aliens’ with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair.”

“The dinousarios are for children of 8 years. We can all have fun, too, but the kids should not be excluded. His sensibility was right for that film, I would have gone further, it would be more unpleasant, much more unpleasant.”

you May be right, it may be that Steven Spielberg was the most indicated for this material, although the vision of James Cameron sounds very tempting and I regret I never go to see it. Perhaps it could be a producer of some future sequel. As you know, is busy rolling the sequels of ‘Avatar’ but he works as a producer at ‘Alita: Angel fighter’ and the new installment of ‘Terminator’.

on the other hand, the franchise ‘Jurassic Park’ expands in the coming month of June with the premiere of ‘Jurassic World: The kingdom fallen’, directed by J. A. Bayona.
